Family Life Education (FLE) is pleased to announce it has received a $205,000 grant from the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving to grow and sustain operations of the recently opened Louise Earle Loomis Children's Wellness Center. The two-year grant enables FLE to hire an experienced program manager whose primary responsibility will be to maintain the day-to-day operations of the Children's Wellness Center. The grant also aides in marketing, promotion, community outreach, and children's wellness equipment.
This grant also affords FLE the opportunity to conduct analytical evaluations with the UConn Center for Applied Research in Human Development (CARHD), to measure program participants' level of self-efficacy.
Opened in April, 2018, the Children's Wellness Center is the only facility of its kind in the Northeast to offer a spectrum of wellness activities aimed at combating the childhood obesity epidemic taking place in Hartford, particularly among the most vulnerable populations. Through the promotion of healthy eating, nutrition, obesity prevention and cognitive development, the Children's Wellness Center offers free access to programs for children throughout the city.
